Macri meets Merkel in Berlin

President Mauricio Macri held a working lunch with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at the headquarters of the chancellery in Berlin, and after the meeting gave a press conference.

The head of state arrived at the Bundeskanzleramt at 12.30 (7.30 Argentina time) to hold his first meeting with Merkel in the framework of his official visit to the country.

Macri said after the meeting about the free commerce agreement between Mercosur and EU: «It may be that in the past Argentina has delayed this agreement, but today both Argentina and other Mercosur countries want to go forward, and clearly the agricultural chapter is the most difficult.»

«We need more flexible positions from France, but I trust the leadership of Germany,» the president added.

Merkel said about Brexit and the Mercosur agreement, «the decision of the United Kingdom is something we regret, but the Europe of 27 we will continue our course, and my position about Mercosur has not changed».
