NASA celebrates the Earth Day with selfies from all around the Globe

NASA this year invites citizens everywhere to get a selfie in a natural environment and share in social networks with the tag # GlobalSelfie to mark the celebration of Earth Day 2014.

The U.S. space agency posted on its website: “NASA invites you to you and the other people in the world to be part of a worldwide celebration of Earth Day this year with the event #GlobalSelfie”.

NASA remembers that “despite its scientists identified thousands of new planets in the Universe in recent years, the agency does not study any other planet closer than the Earth. With 17 observation missions orbiting our planet Earth and several more that were launched this year, NASA is studying the Earth’s atmosphere, land and oceans in all its complexity.”

“The data from these satellites, which capture new images of Earth every second, help their scientists to create a clear picture of our planet from a scientific point of view.”

“But on Earth Day the agency wanted to generate a different image, a collection of self-portraits, known as ‘selfies’, to create a unique mosaic of people inhabiting our planet and encourages those who are to participate take photos outside showing mountains, parks, sky, rivers and lakes.”
