Snowden was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize
Former U.S. intelligence analyst Edward Snowden was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize , in a letter to the Nobel Committee sent by a former Norwegian minister.
“He has helped to reveal the extreme level of monitoring by nations against other nations and citizens,” said Socialist former minister Baard Vegar Solhjell explaining his initiative.
“Snowden has helped people to know what happened and to stimulate public debate on trust in government, which is a basic requirement for peace,” said the former official in the letter.
Solhjell not necessarily endorse all the revelations of Snowden, but he showed “the nature and technological capabilities of modern policing”.
“The level of sophistication and depth of surveillance which underwent citizens worldwide are issues that have left us stunned and have led to a debate,” he added in the text.
Snowden ‘s actions have “led to the reintroduction of trust and transparency as an important principle of global security policies,” he said .
