De Mendiguren: “The central problem is inflation”
Argentina, January 25, 2014
Today, Renewal Front deputy and secretary of the Industrial Union of Argentina, José Ignacio de Mendiguren, said that “it’s not enough to ease the dollar trap, we have to combat rising inflation.” The statements are consistent with the views expressed by Sergio Massa, who yesterday harshly criticized the Government.
Thus, de Mendiguren said that “the decision of the Government House to allow the purchase of dollars must be accompanied with an explicit signal of the fight against inflation.”
Asked about how the devaluation will affect the level of employment, De Mendiguren said that if President Cristina Kirchner “does not apply a series of measures in harmony then the economic activity will fall”.
Meanwhile, Massa said on Twitter that “the central problem is inflation” and questioned the “zigzag in economic policy in the last 20 days” adding that “all economic decisions should start by changing the trend of inflation”.
