Mujica explained the sale of energy to Argentina

Argentina, December 31, 2013

Uruguayan President Jose Mujica said on his radio show “I wish we could contribute more with the needs of Argentina” with respect to the sale of energy that the Uruguayan government does to the neighboring country, given the energy crisis.

He added, “I think this exchange is outside the current business logic and should be described as a human rights issue”.

On the other hand, he pointed out that commercial energy relationship between the two countries is not new, “for many years, more than 30 makes, we have been exchanging with the Argentina Republic energy, fighting not only for the supply, but also its costs”.

Uruguay has sold energy to Argentina by 42 gigawatt hours (GWh) from 12 to 29 December, according to the president of state power company UTE, Gonzalo Casaravilla, and the Secretariat of Communications at the Presidency. “In relative terms, it seems to be little, but in absolute terms, it makes a difference” he said.
