The tweet that shook the world
Justine Sacco, head of communications for media company IAC, shook the world with a message on the social network Twitter that outraged million.
On Friday, before taking off to Cape Town, South Africa to start her holiday, Justine Sacco tweeted . ” . . Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!”
The woman took the flight and 12 hours later, when she landed, did not imagine the storm that was unleashed. The message was retweeted by a multitude of social media and IAC / InterActiveCorp took distanced form her.
Indignation spreads on social networks forcing the company to issue a statement. “This is an outrageous offensive comment that does not reflect the views and values of IAC. Unfortunately, the employee in question is unreachable on an international flight, but this is a very serious matter, and we are taking appropriate action”, they said.
Sacco had a Twiiter account with just 500 followers, but nevertheless never imagined that her words would have such an impact. Soon thousands of people began to follow it just to insult her. Soon after, the account was canceled. It is speculated that it was she who did it.
