The diagnosis of Cristina: What is chronic subdural collection?
The president of Argentina, Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner , will need to rest for at least a month, according to medical advice, due to a “chronic subdural collection.”
According to specialists in the field, this means:
- Collection: is known in medical terms as accumulation;
- Subdural, because it is located inside the skull between the dura, which is the membrane that covers the brain and the arachnoid, one of the layers of the meninges;
- Chronic, because over time escalated to cause a strong headache and arrhythmia.
“These collections can be expressed late and depends on where they occur in the brain, they could generate various symptoms like a headache or an arrhythmia, among other ailments although scholars agree that can not be linked with certainty that in this case arrhythmia and headache are the result of the collection chronic named in the medical report,” Alberto Alves de Lima said. He is cardiologist, Head of teaching and research of the Cardiovascular Institute of Buenos Aires (ICBA).
