Tension between Argentina and Uruguay for the Botnia pulp mill
Argentina, September 29, 2013
Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, through a strong statement, warned that will go to the International Court of Justice in The Hague for failure to reach an agreement with the Uruguayan government, which called to increase the production of the Botnia pulp mill.
The tension began when José “Pepe” Mujica said that he’ll authorize the Botnia pulp mill to increase its production despite the opposition from Argentina.
In 2012, informed the Administrative Commission of the River Uruguay CARU the demand to increase the production. Then, Argentina made four requests for information.
“Argentina reiterated four times the request for information without receiving appropriate information” said the statement.
Despite the tension, it is stipulated that tomorrow at 8 pm both leaders will meet in the Buquebús station of Puerto Madero. In that context, from Gualeguaychú announced they will protest against both heads of state.
