Kenya: Most of the hostages have been rescued by special forces
Kenya, September 22, 2013
Today, most of the hostages that were still being held at the Mall of Kenya were rescued, officials said.
The army and security officers managed to gain control of most of the shopping complex where the kidnappers, suspected members of Al Shabaab militia, burst shooting at the mall, killing 68 people and taking hostages.
Despite the release of the hostages, the fight of the attackers, who are estimated to be 15, seems to continue.
This afternoon, sporadic gunfire was heard, 30 hours after the assault to the mall at the hands of a command composed of masked men who burst firing automatic weapons and throwing grenades against customers and employees.
