Gualeguaychu demonstrate against the pulp mill Botnia
Argentina, September 21, 2013
Today, Gualeguaychú demonstrators distributed flyers to renew their protest against the industry Botnia. On Wednesday, they’ll meet to define the proposals that will be lead to the Environment Secretary Juan José Mussi.
The Gualeguaychú Environmental Assembly today resumed its actions against the Finnish pulp mill UPM-Botnia, installed on the banks of the Rio Uruguay.
The demonstration was performed on Avenida Primera Junta and international route 136, where they launched “an awareness campaign on the fight against the mill and report on the latest episodes of contamination.”
Botnia recently expressed its desire to increase production. For its part, the Assembly demanded to know the environmental controls to be made by governments of Argentina and Uruguay together and which were not reported to the residents of southern Entre Rios.
In the call, the leaflets read: “just ignorant, or corrupt people can deny Botnia-UPM pollution. For us, our children, grandchildren and generations to come, say it again: yes to life, no to Botnia-UPM”.
