Menem will be judged for the second time in a year
Argentina, September 1, 2013
Former President Carlos Menem will face his second public trial of the year. On this occasion, is alleged to have hidden in his affidavit of 2000 a bank account in Switzerland.
The hearing will begin at 10 am, in the courts of Comodoro Py, in the Retiro district. There, the Federal Court will judge Menem for alleged crimes of “affidavit malicious omission, misrepresentation and breach of duties as public official.”
It may be recalled that Senator had already been sentenced in June to seven years in prison for another federal court of justice for trafficking arms to Croatia and Ecuador.
In this second case, the former president is accused of having failed in his affidavit of 2000 various goods, including two bank accounts in Switzerland, one of which would be named after his daughter, Zulema Menem.
Menem’s defense believes that the accusation is prescribed by the passage of time so he asked his dismissal.
