Ricky Martin: “I bullied gay people”
Ricky Martin gave shocking statements to Australian magazine GQ, where he revealed was homophobic and bullying gay people.
“I look back and realize that I bullied the people who knew they were gay. I had internalized homophobia. I think it was a mechanism to be free of the terrible dispute felt inside,” said the singer.
Ricky felt he “had to get rid of it all, face myself and recognize what I was.”
“I was angry at the world, was terribly rebellious. I used to look to homosexuals and think: ‘I’m not like them. I do not want to be like them, that’s not me’. I felt completely ashamed of what I was,” he said.
“I think I projected my frustration and anger at those around me,” he added.
His children made him change the perspective: “I didn’t want my children to grow up in a house full of lies or even thinking that there was something wrong with being gay,” said the father of Matteo and Valentino.
