Pope Francisco held the ceremony of the Holy Thursday in a Criminal Institute
Italy, March 28, 2013
As usual every year, Pope Francisco hosted the ceremony which corresponds to Holy Thursday. This time it was held in the Criminal Institute in Rome.
Francisco made the washing feet of twelve inmates of juvenile prison, in a ceremony that was not televised.
This is the first time a pope officiates the Holy Thursday Mass in a juvenile detention facility and not in the Basilica of St. John Lateran.
The reformatory, however, had already been visited in the past by John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
The Pope was greeted by the Italian Minister of Justice acting, Paola Severino, the head of the Department of Juvenile Justice, Caterina Chinnici, the Police Commander Reformatory Prison, Saul Patrizi, and its director, Liana Giambartolomei.
