One of the officials of NASA, Charles Bolden, advises U.S. Congressmen before the Science Committee on ‘how to handle the situation if an asteroid was directed to the city of New York: Pray’.
“That is all that the United States or anyone could do at this time in relation to unknown asteroids and meteors that may be on a collision course with Earth.”
“An asteroid about 17 meters in diameter exploded on February 15 on Chelyabinsk, Russia, generating shock waves that smashed windows and damaged buildings. More than 1,500 people were injured.”
“Later that same day, a larger asteroid discovered last year just passed 27,681 miles from Earth, closer than the satellites around the planet.”
The representative Eddie Bernice Johnson, D-Texas, stated: “These events serve as proof that we live in an active solar system, with potentially dangerous objects that pass through our neighborhood with surprising frequency.”
