According to a study conducted by the University of Colorado Boulder (USA), published in ‘Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences’, “Limited sleep at night leads to eat more and therefore get fat.”
Kenneth Wright, director of CU-Boulder’s Sleep and Chronobiology Laboratory, who led the study said: “The simple act of sleeping less, by itself, will not lead to weight gain. But when people are lack of sleep, causes them to eat more than they really need. “
“Getting enough sleep can help fight the obesity epidemic. I do not think sleep more will lead to weight loss. Problems with weight gain and obesity are much more complex than that, but it might help. If we can incorporate a healthy sleep loss programs and weight maintenance, our findings suggest that it may help people obtain a healthy weight, but more research is needed to prove it.”
Previous research showed that “the lack of sleep can lead to weight gain, but the extra kilos reasons were unclear. In the new study, the researchers show that while awake longer requires more energy, so that participants in the study ate more food to compensate for the extra calories burned.”
