Subways: Ombudsman of the City of Buenos Aires proposed a “social fare”
Argentina, March 11, 2013
Today, Alicia Pierini, Ombudsman of the City of Buenos Aires, introduced a law project that will be discussed in the City Legislature, which proposes the inclusion of a social ticket for certain subway users. “We seek a tool for social inclusion,” she said.
The implementation of the subsidies would be gradual, according to the occupation of the user. Teachers and City employees will receive the 60% reduction of the total fare. Meanwhile, high school students and non-university tertiary level who attend public or private institutions subsidized by the state will receive the subsidy of 80% of the ticket during term time.
On the other hand, it will also include people with disabilities, those who receive the Universal Child Allowance or other program for social welfare and retirees with minimum salaries with a subsidy of 100 %.
