The subway will increase from $2,50 to $3,50

Argentina, March 3, 2013

Juan Pablo Piccardo SBASE president, confirmed today that the subway fare will increase. Since 15 March, the new rate will be AR$ 3.50 for the subway and AR$ 1 for the premetro. The change means an increase of 40%.

“We must strengthen and invest in security because we cannot give a bad and cheap service, but good and reasonably priced,” said the official to Radio Mitre.

Piccardo argued that to operate the subway are needed $ 1.4 billion and said “look at last year’s costs. There are 4084 employees working in Metrovías and basically energy and maintenance increases for nearly $ 300 million every increase. “

For his part, Secretary General of the Association of Workers and Premetro Subway (AGTSyP), Roberto Pianelli, reported yesterday that he’ll “present a challenge to the public hearing on the rate increase of the subway” as he felt that it was done illegally.
