The mother of Maximo Kirchner’s girfriend dies

Ofelia Martha Arana, mother of the Maximo Kirchner’s girlfriend, Rocío García, dies today in Buenos Aires after being hospitalized in critical condition for months.

The death of Arana, who was a retired teacher and became president of the Provincial Council of Education, occurred while Cristina Kirchner was talking at the opening of legislative year in the Congress.

In the middle of last year, the woman, 64, had suffered a shock because of “her obesity, diabetes peaks and respiratory problems” that threatened her life, doctors said on that occasion.

At first she was admitted to the Rio Gallegos Regional Hospital, and later was transferred to the Hospital Austral in Pilar, where the presidential family usually is assisted.

The women’s health worsened in recent days to the point that, on Thursday, family and friends traveled from Rio Gallegos to Buenos Aires to accompany her.

Arana was married to Hector “Chicho” Garcia, who was governor of Santa Cruz in 1991, before Nestor Kirchner.

It was the second death involving Cristina Kirchner in recent weeks, as Maria Juana Ostoic, Nestor Kirchner’s mother, died on February 18.
