Employees of Chivas Brothers made an error that caused the greatest loss in the history of the famous company, when accidentally turned 18,000 liters of whiskey to the drain.

The company said in a statement: “We are currently investigating an accidental leak occurred at the plant in Dumbarton, where some of the liquid was shed to the water treatment local plant”.

They added that: “There was no release of fluid into the River Leven or other local water course. We inform Scottish Water and all other relevant authorities.”

A spokesman for the Scottish Water said, “The staff of our treatment wastewater plants is working with Chivas Brothers to investigate the negligence and ensure that all precautions are being taken to prevent a recurrence.”

“The discharge of large quantities of alcohol in the sewer may have an adverse impact on wastewater treatment, especially during this dry and cold weather. We continue to see Dumbarton plant to ensure that the treatment was not compromised,” he said.
