Teachers claim wage increases to the National Government

Argentina, February 17, 2013

Stella Maldonado, head of Ctera teachers’ union, said that “the offer to pay the 22% increase in three months was a mistake of the government” and said that on Saturday 23 they will discuss the measures to be taken.

Meanwhile, teachers in Jujuy, Misiones and Santa Cruz said they’ll “ask an increase of between 25% and 50%.” Moreover, the joint will resume this week in Santa Fe, Catamarca and La Rioja.

Maldonado also questioned the normal start of the school year, scheduled for February 25, but said it will be resolved during the conference that will be held on Feb. 23 to analyze the steps.

Last Friday, the Government offered a 22% to be paid in three months, to which Maldonado said “they are making a big mistake because it is not what we wanted.”

“The latest proposal was rejected and if there are not modifications we will analyze different types of measures,” she said.
