Lorenzentti: “Governments think more in the elections than in the future generations”
Argentina, February 17, 2013
Ricardo Lorenzetti, president of the Supreme Court, said at a meeting about environment issues in Nairobi that “governments yield to the corporations.”
The judge participates in the Environment Programme of the UN, where he said that “development is sustainable if it brings wealth, if it respects the limits of nature.”
“Africa is a clear sign of false choices: it was promised the development based on the limited exploitation of resources. Today, these resources are exhausted, there is only poverty and devastation,” he said.
And he added “the Government thinks more in future elections that future generations. Then the level of environmental protection not only advances, but decreases”.
He recalled that at the summit of Rio de Janeiro “Rio +20″ judiciaries set the need to protect the environment in the context of human rights and the rule of law. “
