Chinese New Year: How to celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Snake in China and Argentina

More than a billion of Asians celebrated on Sunday the arrival of the Snake year amid a din of firecrackers and fireworks, after the start of the festivities by Canadian singer Céline Dion, Saturday night on Chinese television.

The night from Saturday to Sunday was illuminated by countless fireworks across the country, while people invaded the streets to the sound of millions of firecrackers.

These firecrackers and fireworks are meant to ward off evil spirits.

Céline Dion was one of the stars of the show on state television CCTV, where she sang “My Heart Will Go On”, the theme from the movie “Titanic”, the second global blockbusters of all time.

Dion also sang “Molihua” (jasmine flower) to duet with Song Zuying, a large Chinese soprano.

Also participated in the program Liu Yang, who last June became the first Chinese woman astronaut.

In Argentina, Chinatown Saturday began the celebration of the New Year 4711 in its community, Year of the Water Snake, party which runs until Sunday at the Barrancas de Belgrano, in this neighborhood.

The celebration, which started at 14:00 and lasted until midnight, will be this Sunday from 10:00 to 20:00.
