Messi signed with Barcelona until 2018

Spain, February 7, 2013

Barcelona, led by Sandro Rosell, was quick to enable talks to renew the contract of Argentinian star Lionel Messi. He agreed and will wear the Barca shirt for five seasons, plus a higher salary per year and the promise of receiving benefits for personal distinctions.

Barcelona leaders met with Jorge Messi, Lionel’s father, to begin negotiations with the aim of achieving a contract extension to keep the Argentine in the Catalan club.

Although the agreement was not complicated, as Messi was willing to continue wearing the Barca shirt, complications may occur in the process. However, the Steering Committee was biased and complacent with the star and the situation was resolved in the best way.

With today’s signing, Messi will be linked to Barcelona until 2018, the year in which he’ll turn 31 years old.

The Barcelona striker will receive 12 million euros per season, a figure that could rise even more considering the number of games played and awards on a personal level.
