The French National Assembly approved the first, and most important article of a controversial new law that ‘will allow gay couples to marry and adopt children.’
Members of the French Parliament voted ‘in favor of the article that redefines marriage as an agreement between two people, not necessarily between a man and a woman’.
The legalization plan, championed by French President Francois Hollande, in recent weeks led to thousands of supporters and opponents to the streets of Paris.
