A powerful blast took place at the Tower of Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) located in the center of the Aztec capital, leaving several dead and wounded; so far authorities reported at least 14 people dead and over 80 injured.

The incident occurred around 15:30 hours for reasons under investigation. The first hypothesis points to an electrical fault.

The company announced via Twitter: “What happened was an explosion in the building B2 administrative center. There are injured. There was damage to the ground floor and mezzanine”.

The towers like the surrounding buildings were evacuated after the explosion, which occurred when employees returned from their lunch break.

The head of government of the Federal District, Miguel Angel Mancera, arrived at the site and communicated by Twitter: “Public security forces, rescue and civil protection are working in support of what happened in the Pemex Tower”.
