‘Argo’ again a surprise to receive the top prize of SAG Awards Screen Actors Guild of America, beating the film directed by Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’, and increases its chances of getting the Oscar for best picture.
Actor Ben Affleck said after receiving the award: “I never thought that I was going to win this award.”
However, ‘Lincoln’ was successful due to the awards for Daniel Day-Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones. British Day-Lewis received the award for Best Actor, increasing possibility to win what would be his third Oscar. Meanwhile, Lee Jones won the trophy for best supporting actor for his portrayal of Congressman Thaddeus Stevens in ‘Lincoln’, beating Robert De Niro in ‘The good things in life’.
Another of the great protagonists of the ceremony was Jennifer Lawrence, who received the award for best actress for her role as a young widow in “Silver Linings Playbook”, beating Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty”.
Meanwhile Anne Hathaway won her first SAG Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of the tragic Fantine in ‘Les Miserables’. “I got my SAG card when I was 14 years (…) and I enjoyed every minute of my life as an actress,” Hathaway said in accepting the award.
