January 13, 2013
Marisol Oviedo, the girl who struggled with her twin sister to get a lung lobe transplant, died this morning at the Favaloro Foundation.
“We lost her 6 am, waiting for a transplant,” said the father of the young lady Ernesto Oviedo. Both Marisol as her sister were affected with the disease cystic fibrosis.
Marisol was in seriously ill since last December 12 and the National Coordinating Center Ablations Unique and Implants (Incucai) had put her in the National Emergency List.
Maribel, the other twin, was transplanted successfully in Brazil in January 1012. Her parents took the place of donors.
At the time of this intervention, Marisol could not undergo the procedure because her health was very delicate.
A month later, President Cristina Kirchner signed a decree allowing the realization of living donor lung transplants.
