January 11, 2013

A small spider that lives in Australia, called “Peacock” has a very striking color, which gives meaning to his name and also an extraordinary behavior when mating.

The male is the most colourful and its attributes are used to draw attention to the female, but it also makes a very peculiar dance, which stands on its hind legs.

Its size is only about 4 millimetres and its scientific name is Maratus volans. It is found only in Queensland and New South Wales.

Filmmakers and zoologists could not avoid putting their eyes on it to document its behaviour.
