The Whatsapp saved the lives of 7 hikers lost on a hillside in Spain

The use of new mobile technologies has enabled a Rescue Group in Height (GERA) of firefighters in Madrid to rescue 7 lost hikers.
Emergency Sources have reported that this rapid rescue was made possible by the use of mobile generation of “smartphone” endowed with whatsapp messenger application.
Emergency received at 7 pm (local hour) a call from seven hikers, three of them women, who were lost in a snowy Peñalara.
The combined use of the latest technology has allowed firefighters to set the coordinates that hikers were with a margin of error of only 10 meters.
In the rescue troops intervened GERA and a Red Cross ambulance that moved immediately to the place fixed by the GPS satellite.
The seven hikers were on the Camino Viejo de Valsaín after dark and while wearing adequate clothing, the wearing 4 or 5 hours walking around the area had some symptoms of hypothermia.
The group of hikers has been moved by the rescue services to the parking of Boundaries, where have returned on their own to their places of origin.
