Winner, the polar bear at the zoo of the city of Buenos Aires, died as a result of the high temperatures of recent days and the noise of the fireworks from December 24 at night.

“With great sadness, we announce that our polar bear died, an animal beloved by all staff Buenos Aires Zoo,” authorities said on its Facebook page.

“Because of the unusual temperature peaks, combined with fireworks from 24 at night and bear nervous temperament, hampered the normal thermoregulation, leading to death of it,” they added.

An autopsy on Winner body revealed that the cause was hyperthermia.

“Death by hyperthermia has an environmental content and another one associated with the temperament of the individual,” they explained.
