The Central Bank of Argentina (BCRA) enabled the purchasing of dollars with cash for travelers who have the approval of the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP). Until now they could only buy dollars by credit card.
The measure will take effect from today. In addition, the Central Bank approved buying dollars for family support and transfer services.
“There are many exchange were they didn’t have instrumented capture terminals to make purchases of currencies with debit card”, Central Bank sources said.
“So we decided to authorize cash purchases, especially because otherwise there could be problems in the cases of individuals who need to buy currencies of neighboring countries, and they usually resort to exchange houses,” the sources added.
Also people who have no bank account, such as the case of a housewife, who, even with the permission of the AFIP, until now could not buy dollars; with this measure they will have access to foreign currency.
