The traditional annual parade on Thanksgiving Day in the huge department store Macy’s began in downtown New York, providing a festive atmosphere in the city that is still grappling with the effects of Sandy.

Viewers could see the passage of the bands, performers and of course giant balloons with shaped children’s characters.
