VIDEO: Stunning explosion at a power plant in Manhattan

A security camera recorded a massive explosion of a transformer at a power plant in downtown Manhattan after the hurricane Sandy made landfall.

The big flash went across the East River in Brooklyn, the video shows a series of bright blue explosions illuminate the sky around Ed conditioning (Consolidated Edison) Ground.

Since the company it was announced that supply of energy was closed to customers in Manhattan, so it can be restored more quickly after the storm passes.

Much of Manhattan is now without power, with millions of households facing blackouts.
