Sandy and Hurricane made landfall on the city of New Jersey, northwest of the country, dumping heavy rains across the eastern United States, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC) U.S., based in Miami.
Post-tropical cyclone eye hit near Atlantic City with winds of 130 km / h and moving at 37 km / h.
Barely an hour after landfall, “Sandy” had been demoted from category one hurricane to a tropical cyclone post, which, however, has not reduced its danger.
Earlier, from Washington, President Barack Obama said Americans should be prepared for landfall later Monday and estimated that millions will be affected by the storm.
“This will be a great and powerful storm and I think everyone on the east coast should prepare properly,” he told reporters after a coordination meeting on Sandy at the White House.
