Quitting smoking prolongs life in women at least 10 years

According to research published in the Million Women Study in The Lancet: “The abandonment of snuff can prolong the life of women in 10 years.”
1.3 million women participated in the invstigación between 1996 and 2001, aged between 50 and 65.
Participants had to complete a questionnaire about: lifestyle, medical and social factors.
If one of them died during the investigation, investigators were informed about the cause of death.
In the research period, 66,000 participants died.
The study began with: 20% of participants were smokers, 28% former smokers and 52% had never smoked.
Those who were still smoking at 3 years were nearly three times more likely to die than non-smokers, in the next nine years.
