The head of the Federal Administration of Public Revenue (AFIP), Ricardo Echegaray, said the agency does not seek to persecute anyone with the measures taken in recent months, but are fiscal tools for people to meet their obligations.

“The Government has an obligation to protect the main backbones of economic policy for the country to continue working and not fall into the crisis of the past,” said Etchegaray.

He added: “There is an obligation to maintain the Central Bank reserves (of Argentina) and the mission of keeping the dollars available, to allow importers to pay for purchases abroad.”

“Argentina is not a country that emits dollars; the dollars are entering through direct investments and loans”. Also the export permits dollars the country, and unfortunately “have been reduced by the global crisis,” he said.
