Last night, at a meeting of more than 13 hours, Uruguayan congressmen passed with a narrow majority, 50 votes for and 49 against, the bill on the decriminalization of abortion until 12 weeks of the fetus gestation and now goes to the Senate.

Article 2 of the approved project says: “The abortion will not be penalized, and thus do not apply Articles 325 and 325 bis of the Penal Code, for the case that the woman voluntarily complies with the requirements set out in Articles following and performed before 12 weeks of pregnancy.”

The session that started around 10:00 am, was conducted between accusations, shouts from the stands and resulted in deputies alternates to party discipline not to defy the ruling and red blocks.

Meanwhile a group of naked women with their bodies painted and gathered around the Legislative Palace in favor of the decriminalization of abortion.
