The director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), José Manuel Blecua, announced that the new edition of the dictionary to be launched in 2014, include the words “tuitear”, “tuiteo”, “tuit” y “tuitero”, and eBook or blog.
The announcement was made at the presentation of the manual ‘Writing on the Internet. Guide to the new media and social networks’.
Blecua said as the academy has always been holding the sole owners of the language are the speakers.
Consequently, the RAE recognizes “an activity engaged thousands of people individually or as representatives of institutions, such as the case of the Academy, which has a Twitter account since a year ago.”
The scholar also revealed that the RAE website reaches 2 million queries per day. These figures “are on the rise since three months ago when it was given free applications to mobile devices,” he said.
