Del Potro defeated Roddick and advanced to the quarter-finals of the U.S. Open

United States, September 5, 2012

Juan Martin Del Potro fulfilled his mandate and “retired” a big tennis player at the U.S. Open. The Argentine, who had already retired Safin a couple of years ago, defeated the American Andy Roddick 6-7, 7-6. 6-2 and 6-4. Roddick had already said that this was the last tournament of his career. So, Del Potro got his ticket to the quarter-finals, where he will have to face the Serbian Djokovic.

The “Tower” of Tandil, seventh in the world, will face in the next round Novak Djokovic, the defending champion, who was benefited with the abandonment of Wawrinka to reach this stage.

Del Potro, U.S. Open champion in 2009, is the only Latin American who survived the second week of the tournament played in Flushing Meadows, New York.
