Actors Day

August 26, 2012

In Argentina, the National Congress in 1992 adopted Act 24171 by which the second Monday of May each year is declared the NATIONAL DAY OF ACTOR.

But it is celebrated by Ginés de Rome, who was a third-century Roman Actor. He is considered holy martyr for Catholicism. According to legend, Ginés, while representing a comedy before Emperor Diocletian, did a parody of a baptism, he had witnessed a few days earlier.

But a miracle happened, while doing comedy became a Christian. He was tortured and beheaded by the prefect of Rome in 286. His feast is celebrated on August 25. For that reason was instituted to August 26 as the date to celebrate, to commemorate the exploits of Gines, “INTERNATIONAL ACTOR DAY”.
