Like a vampire movie, ‘A woman persuades a kidnapper with a crucifix’ (pictures)

The wide-eyed and crazed attacker with an ice pick in the throat of a hostage -a boy of nine years old- make him live a nightmare for eight hours in Quezon City in the Philippines.

In a moment that could have come straight from a vampire movie, the woman, who would be child’s mother persuaded the attacker with a crucifix.

She finally was able to enter and free the boy, identified as Mark Jason Pineda, who was taken to hospital with two small notches in the neck.

The crisis was resolved in the early hours of Saturday morning. There are conflicting reports about how the hostage-taking ended as in the local media journalists said that the boy’s mother saw the opportunity to intervene when the attacker threw the pick.

However, police say they convinced the man after hard negotiations.

The attacker was arrested and now faces charges of serious illegal detention, according to police district of Quezon City.
