The Italian-Argentine tennis player that shocked England

England, June 30, 2012

Argentina continues to surprise the world through its athletes, but also those who compete for other countries. This is the case of Camila Giorgi, an Italian with Argentine parents who surprised everyone at the All England to advance to the second round of a Grand Slam for the first time.

Giorgi was born in a village of 43 inhabitants called Macerata, in eastern Italy. His parents are from La Plata and even his father fought in the Falklands War for Argentina.

Giorgi trains daily in the United States and is a fan of football and gymnastics. It should be recalled that in an interview with the newspaper La Nacion, she said about a year ago “I would like to be the new Gaby Sabatini.”

She must now face Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska, 3rd favorite in the competition. Giorgi comes after having defeated Petrova 6-3, 7-6.
