The divorce of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise, Hollywood superstar, 49, said he was “deeply sorry” about his split with his current wife Katie Holmes 33.

Holmes and Cruise are now deciding the custody of their daughter, Suri, of six years.

Holmes’ attorney, Jonathan Wolfe, said to People magazine: “This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family.”

“Katie’s main concern remains, as ever, the best for her daughter.”

A spokesman for Cruise, who is currently in Iceland for the filming of his new sci-fi film Oblivion, said: “Kate and Tom said their divorce was deeply saddened and now concentrates on their three children.”

The actress filed the papers in New York this week, citing irreconcilable differences of the two.

According to TMZ: “she asked for the legal custody, primary residential custody and an adequate amount of child support from her husband.”
