United States, June 28, 2012

The forest fire in Colorado Springs sent thousands of people yesterday, to flee their homes, this intense fire was sparked by a lightning on June 9.

The fire, which doubled in size to about 28 square kilometers, had forced more than 32,000 residents to evacuate in the second city in the state. Among the evacuees were urgently cadets of the Air Force Academy, as firefighters fought to save the building.

Heavy smoke and ashes rise in the mountains of Waldo Canyon, which is the highest priority for firefighters in the nation.

Jeffrey Lucas, who lived in the area all his life, said that “his house had burned to the ground.”

“The fire was literally down the hill and ran to grab all the things around the house and out of there.”

“The family watched his house burn in just 30 minutes after they escaped.” The roads are blocked by smoke and ash.

The winds change constantly challenged firefighters trying to contain the blaze in Waldo Canyon and extinguish hot spots in the western suburbs of the city. Some 3,000 people were evacuated westward.
