Argentina removed its ambassador from Paraguay for the political crisis

Paraguay, June 23, 2012

Through a statement of “immediate withdrawal”, the Government reported that Rafael Roma, Argentine Ambassador in Asunción, was removed because of “the democratic disorder” and “serious institutional problems”.

“Faced with the serious institutional problems occurring in the Republic of Paraguay, which culminated in the resignation of the constitutional and democratic President Fernando Lugo, the Argentine government has ordered the immediate withdrawal of its ambassador in Asuncion” as declared an official statement of Foreign Ministry.

Argentina will be represented by a charge d’affaires “until order and democracy are restored in Paraguay”.

The decision of the Casa Rosada was known after President Cristina Kirchner warned that Argentina “will not validate” the new government in Paraguay, considering that Lugo’s dismissal was “a coup”.
