Assange sought political asylum in Ecuador
June 19, 2012
The creator of Wikileaks requested political asylum in the Ecuadorian embassy in London to avoid being deported to Sweden. He is required in the Nordic country for alleged sex crimes.
The Embassy of Ecuador in Britain announced today that it is on land Assange Ecuador and procedures to be performed to indicate whether or not to grant him asylum.
“As a signatory of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of the UN, with the obligation to review all requests for asylum, we have passed your request immediately to the relevant department in Quito,” Ecuador’s headquarters said.
“The decision to consider giving Assange asylum should not be construed in any way as an interference of the Government of Ecuador in judicial proceedings in the United Kingdom and Sweden,” they said.
