The captain in charge of the Air France plane that crashed into the Atlantic Ocean in 2009, with 228 passengers killed, could have been with a woman when problems arose on the plane.

Captain Marc Dubois took more than a minute to return to the cockpit of Air France 447 after the pilots lost control of the aircraft during a severe thunderstorm.

Delaying the master was never revealed, but two sources say the veteran pilot of 58 years old was traveling with a social worker out of Air France, Veronique Gaignard.

Jean-Paul Troadec, director of the Bureau d’Enquetes et d’analyzes, explained that “Miss Gaignard is not part of the investigation, though she was on the same flight.”

“The agency is not interested in the privacy of the captain.”
