Hugo Chavez’ government supports the government of Syria and provokes outrage in the opposition

The Bureau of Democratic Unity (MUD), opposing the government, issued a statement repudiating ‘the support by the government of Hugo Chavez to Syrian regime of Bashar al-Asaad being dictatorial and genocide when the world condemns the killings of women and children in Syria.
The Venezuelan opposition said, “The global rejection and regret due to the killing of civilians over the weekend occurred in the town of Al Hula, in Syria, by the dictatorial regime of Bashar al-Assad was the subject for the first time, a unanimous statement by the Security Council of the United Nations. Even China and Russia, so far reluctant to accept responsibility for the Syrian government in the violence of that country, supported the resolution and the efforts of Kofi Annan’s special envoy.”
“Likewise, we reject in the strongest terms that so far the government of President Hugo Chavez has ruled on the systematic and egregious of Syrian military and police forces against civilians and to continue to cooperate in various ways to Assad’s regime, despite pressure from the international community to isolate it.”
“On 23 May a third shipment of Venezuelan fuel arrived in Syria. Venezuelan Minister of Petroleum and Mines Rafael Ramirez said in the last year sent 600,000 barrels of diesel to the country and is willing to send more. The national government made this new shipment within 10 days of the extension of sanctions against the Syrian government by the European Union, in a fresh attempt to curb this organism violence in that country.”
