An earthquake of 6.4 magnitude on the Richter scale struck the province of Santiago del Estero, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at 02:07 local time, 52 kilometers from the town of Añatuya, about 800 kilometers north of Buenos Aires.

Añatuya authorities indicated that they “did not feel the tremor in the area.”

Experts say, “Despite the magnitude of the earthquake movements that occur at such a level of depth are less likely to be felt on the surface.”

So far there was no material damage or injuries from the quake.
