Today marks the anniversary of the death of Father Carlos Mugica, who was assassinated in 1974 by criminals who were never identified. He was the greatest predictor of the third world priests in Argentina.
While he began a career in law, he left after a few years to begin the seminary and dedicate his life to faith. Since 1954, he began his activity with the most humble in parishes of the Province of Buenos Aires.
He was part of the Movement of Priests for the Third World, a priesthood that questioned current economic exploitation by multinationals in developing countries and proposed the political and social participation of the Church in favor of those most affected.
Mugica always rejected the violent methods of the various Peronist Youths, although he was not against their aspiration on society. In 1973, he became openly critical of the group of his former disciples.
In 1974, the priest was killed in front of the church of San Francisco Solano, as he was getting into his car. The perpetrators were never identified, although popularly, the crime is attributed to the Argentina Anti-Communist Alliance, known as “Triple A”.
